7 Practical (and Simple) Tips to Make Every Day Count

1. Start the Day With Good Intentions

My early morning rituals help me to set good intentions for the day ahead. Getting up early allows me to tap into the amazing energy of a new day which lets me feel hopeful and energized.

My morning rituals include:

  • Taking our dog for a walk in nature

  • Enjoying a cup of coffee as I silently watch the sunrise

  • Doing my prayers

  • Reading my goal and ‘Perfect Week” manifestation

  • Reviewing my action steps for the day

  • A 15-minute meditation or yoga “sunrise” salutation

By 8 am, I’m grounded and ready to start my work for the day. I’m more productive when I’ve set my intentions for the day, knowing that I’m moving in the right direction with focus and purpose.

2. Follow a Healthy Eating Plan

Eating healthily stabilizes your moods, ensuring you are vitalized to handle whatever the day gives you. Diet plays a vital role in mental health and eating right regulates your thoughts and emotions.

If you want to make every day count, make sure you follow a healthy eating plan that includes:

  • Protein: Foods such as legumes, fish, milk, nuts, and seeds help your brain produce neurotransmitters essential for mental and emotional health.

  • Fluids: Staying hydrated keeps your mind clear and improves concentration.

  • Fruits and vegetables: Eating fresh fruit and vegetables boosts your immune system for overall well-being.

  • Healthy fats: Avocados, oily fish, nuts, and seeds contribute to a healthier body and mind.

  • Carbohydrates: The right carbs prevent brain fog, fatigue, sluggishness, and depression.

A skilled dietician or holistic practitioner can help you eat the right food for overall wellness by helping you follow a healthy eating plan.

3. Move Your Body

Maintaining your physical health is equally important for your well-being and cultivating a positive outlook on life.  Exercising daily elevates your mood while enabling you to remain emotionally balanced. Moving your body for at least 20 to 30 minutes a day is an excellent way of staying calm, no matter what the day throws at you!

Whether you dance, jog, walk, swim, or cycle, you’ll discover the benefits of staying fit as you handle your daily tasks more efficiently and productively. I make sure I do my daily walks to maintain my physical and mental health. A healthy body and mind give you the energy to achieve whatever you set out to do every day.

4. Share Your Unique Talents and Gifts

We all have talents and gifts that can be used to enhance our lives while serving the greater good. If your job entails using your unique talents and gifts every day, you’re already living a meaningful life! However, not everyone has this opportunity but it doesn’t stop you from doing and sharing what you have with others.

Every day set the intention to:

  • Show lovingkindness to yourself and others

  • Listen wholeheartedly when someone talks

  • Show love through acts of kindness

  • Be creative

  • Do one thing that brings you joy

Whether your gift is being an active listener, a spiritual healer, an artist, or a compassionate friend, make sure you use it daily.

5. Stay Present

Future tripping or dwelling in the past is a surefire way of NOT making your day count! Avoid this from happening by choosing to stay present throughout the day. Focusing from moment to moment is powerful and productive. It allows you to complete tasks properly and to maintain a positive mindset.

We all have the power of NOW. The time is now and recognizing that empowers you to be present, whether it’s with others or working on a task. Being present with others lets you have enriching and engaging conversations. It builds healthy relationships which can only enhance your day.

6. Follow a Self-Care Routine

Incorporating self-care into your daily life is essential if you want to stay on track and achieve your life goals. Practicing self-care regularly is vital for your mind, body, and soul and your daily routine can include any of the following:

  • Meditation

  • Journaling

  • ME time (massage, hot soak in the bathtub, or reading your favorite book)

  • Spending quality time with someone you love

  • Decluttering a cupboard

  • Playing with your pet

  • Taking your office lunch break

  • Doing your favorite hobby

  • Taking a 30-day Self-Love Challenge

Make sure you have a DIY self-care toolkit that you can turn to daily. Not only will it help you deal with everyday life stressors but it will ensure you stick to your self-care routine.

7. Reset Every Evening

There are days when you simply don’t get it right and that’s fine. Nifemi quotes, “Just a reminder that not every day “has to count.” Some days are just about making it to the next one. That counts too.”

Give yourself time every evening to review your day and reset. When a day hasn’t gone according to plan, choose to be kind to yourself. Tomorrow is another day and the sun will rise again, and there will be more opportunities to pursue. But, for today, simply accept and be gentle.

Count your blessings on good AND bad days. Practice gratitude, acknowledge your successes, and accept how far you have come. Decluttering today allows you to start tomorrow with a fresh mind. Celebrate today for all it has given you and appreciate the gifts it has given you. That way you have made every day count.
