Can Emotions Guide Me to My True Self?

You can use your emotions as an inner compass to keep you aligned with your authentic self. Feeling emotions is a natural human experience, and knowing the difference keeps you in alignment. When you understand this, you have an empowering tool for staying authentic.

Low-and High -Vibration Emotions - Knowing the Difference

Low-vibration emotions feel dense and heavy. You may experience contraction in the body, tight muscles, stress, and fatigue.  You are in survival mode, and you struggle to see the bigger picture. Your perspective on life becomes pretty skewed!

High-vibration emotions are expansive, light, and open. You feel connected, energised, and creative. Anything is possible when you operate within these emotions!

Where Do Our Emotions Come From?

Our emotions mostly come from our thoughts, which are driven by our belief system.  Depending on the feeling we are experiencing, our actions can be reactive or responsive.

Limiting beliefs hold us back from connecting with our true inner nature. Let’s explore what kind of emotions are triggered by negative beliefs:

  • Anxiety

  • Fear

  • Depression

  • Sadness

  • Guilt

  • Shame

  • Anger

  • Resentment

  • Helplessness

Exploring Low-Vibration Emotions

How did you experience those emotions in your body as you read through the list?

The feelings associated with these low-vibration emotions keep you disconnected from your real self. However, through self-reflection and self-awareness, you can manage how long you stay in a low-vibration state and whether you react or respond.

What Triggers Low-Vibration Emotions?

Low-vibration emotions can be triggered by:

  • Someone disrespecting your boundaries, which can trigger anger.

  • Being put into a compromising situation, which can leave you feeling anxious or guilty.

  • Having your values judged or ridiculed, which can make you feel ashamed or depressed.

When you are grappling with such dense, intense emotions, you may feel separated from your true inner nature.

What To Do When Experiencing Negative Emotions

As humans, we will experience events that challenge us emotionally. The more aware you are, the better equipped you are to manage the feelings before you spiral. It is equally important to acknowledge your emotions by naming and processing them. This prevents you from bypassing the lessons they are teaching you.

By doing this, you prevent suppressing emotions and instead use them as valuable signals to realign yourself before responding in a way that supports your true personality. Using emotions wisely empowers you to connect with your body and to decide if something or someone is right or wrong for you.

Key Questions to Process Low-Vibration Emotions

Self-awareness is essential for processing emotional reactions. With deeper awareness, you can ask yourself questions such as:

  • Is this emotion being driven by a deep-seated fear or limiting belief?

  • Is my emotional reaction driven by an old habit that once prevented me from experiencing uncomfortable feelings?

All emotions act as your compass, guiding you to your truth. I know that when I am feeling emotionally imbalanced, I am disconnected from my real self. I have been triggered and allowed my limiting beliefs to run rampant. However, over the years, I have learnt to shorten the reactive time by using my Stop. Pause. Reflect, Respond approach.

Let's Explore High-Vibration Emotions

Let’s look at the other side of the coin. What do high-vibration emotions feel like?  These are positive emotional responses, and they include:

  • Gratitude

  • Peace

  • Serenity

  • Love

  • Joy

  • Hope

  • Awe and wonder

  • Abundance

  • Courage

The list goes on! When I experience these emotions, I feel expansive, fulfilled, free, connected, open, still, calm, accepting, unified, and unlimited. These are true reflections of my authentic inner nature.

When I experience these emotions, I know that I am being true to myself in all my interactions with life. I know my needs, core values, and boundaries are being fully met.

How Does Our Environment Impact Emotions?

Our environment can impact our emotions – the people we work with, the weather, and relationships with family all influence how we feel daily. If we have negative thoughts about our environment, our emotions will reflect them. But the power lies in your hands to choose how you respond to external triggers.

While emotions can be automatically triggered, you can choose what to do with the feelings that arise. You choose whether you give in to the emotional reaction and yell to express your anger. Or, you can pause and walk away before deciding on the right response.

Self-Regulation for Emotional Stability

The ability to pause and walk away before responding is a skill called self-regulation. This is the ability to understand your thoughts, emotions, and actions without giving in to impulses based on sudden, intense feelings.

An authentic person demonstrates emotional stability, using self-regulation to remain consistent without taking an extended rollercoaster ride! They can return to a balanced state of being after facing a stressful event, and this is because they value the following:

  • Having healthy boundaries

  • Prioritising core values

  • Choosing love over fear

  • Embracing uncertainty with an open mindset

  • Learning to express needs and wants authentically

  • Not needing to control everything

Our low-vibration emotions indicate when we are out of alignment and warn us to step back and pause before choosing a response.

Our high-vibration emotions keep us in an elevated state of being that reflects our real self. The more love, joy, gratitude, awe, peace, and courage we feel, the easier it is to be the greatest expression of ourselves.

Final Thoughts

You can use the following questions to reflect and boost your self-awareness as you explore your emotional guidance system to wholeness:

  • What uncomfortable feelings do I push away and why?

  • How do I experience these feelings in my body?

  • What thoughts or habits drive these feelings?

  • What are these feelings trying to teach me?

  • What can I do to move into a high-vibration feeling and restore inner balance?

Managing our emotional well-being can be challenging, and I want you to always choose kindness over self-bashing! Being hard on yourself when you react to emotional triggers doesn’t serve you, nor does it honour your authentic being. Choose to love yourself and acknowledge the wounds with compassion and empathy. You deserve it.

I love these words of wisdom by R. M. Drake: “Healing doesn’t mean you’ll always feel joy. It means that when you face tough times or sadness, you have the experience and the understanding to manage your feelings and get back to a balanced state. It’s about coping and adapting, not constant happiness.”
